OilyNews - April 13th, 2011 OilSmart Switch & With the warming of spring for 2011, more people are thinking about how to handle some different oily wastes or oily water problems that they put off or just could not handle in the cold of winter. We Love Oil! Steel mills, refineries and remediation sites are coming to life again now that the oil is loosening up and starting to flow again. Literally our business flows slower when the oil does same. As you may know (or not), we are mostly in the oil skimmer and oily water separator business, along with some assorted peripheral technologies for better dealing with some oily water handling problems. Oily Tip of the Month: Often even in the best designed oil water separator or oil skimmer systems—there is a need to get more oil floating to the surface—where it can be removed.
The OilSmart switch is itself—a dead simple switching device for turning on a pump or some other devices like valves or whatever you want to turn on in the presence of water or off in the presence of oil. In its simplest form it is merely a solid state pump controller on/off switch that can be mounted onto in any surface where oil and/or water might show up. It can be furnished bare bones—so you can wire it into a control panel or we can furnish it with a built in relay and piggyback plug (#SOSS20PBPRX) so you can literally plug your pump (or?) into it for simple plug and play operation. These simple very rugged switches have no moving parts—and operate by measuring the capacitance value of the water / oil they are in. Unlike simple conductivity probes—the OilSmart switches don’t need cleaning after being in contact with oil! We can now provide OilSmart Simplex and Duplex NEMA 4X Pump Control Panels (single and three phase)that will Pump Water without the risk of Pumping Oil into the Environment. All Simplex TP and Duplex Panels come Complete with Alarm/Pump Controls, Total Pump Protection Circuitry and Visible Mounted Features. Our OilSmart alarm panels—are completely stand alone systems that can work with or without the OilSmart switches to alert you to a high liquid condition and tells you if it’s oil or water. It can provide both audible and visual alarms as well as dry contacts out for signaling remote devices. Simple alarm panel or panels with junction boxes—are readily available! Where can these products be used in your operations? Here are some samples of other uses and applications:
While these OilSmart systems won’t solve all your problems—they can be very handy especially in places where mechanical float switches are not practical—and/or can be hard to get to—for cleaning and/or maintenance.
